Project: Linux Kodachi Version: 3.7 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-22 Votes: 0
| Ok, I sorted the keyboard issue out. It was set as the US as default you just need to change it in settings to the UK and works perfectly.
The VPN works very well and has allowed me to post anon on sites that would have otherwise stored my IP address etc. It changes IP address regularly by default and includes Libre Office etc, great range of software and very stable. Sometimes the VPN will reset and then reconnect but it is not an issue.
It is a very nice operating system which I enjoy using.
Very good work from the developers, well done and thank you.

| A Linux user since 2010.
Installed Fedora 25 several months ago and I can say that this is one of the best distributions I've ever used.
It's works very stable despite that latest versions of kernel/software is used.
Community support on Askfedora is also great.

Project: Ubuntu MATE Version: 16.04 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-22 Votes: 0
| Stable and beautiful. Everything that I needed from Linux and much more. Surprisingly, gaming on this is quite simple and satysfying, I've already tried EVE online (works after 3 clicks with the unofficial launcher from EVE devs), Path of Exile (PlayonLinux), Diablo 3 (PlayonLinux), Witcher 1 and 2 (1 Playonlinux GOG version, 2 official linux distro), Divinity Original Sin (steam), Warhammer Total War (steam), Civilization 6 (steam)... still can't believie that all those games run so well on linux.

Project: Solus Version: 2017.04.18.0 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-22 Votes: 0
| Very stable and nice distribution. I've installed the Gnome version and it works perfectly.
There are enough softs in the Software Center for a desktop usage.
Distribution works out of the box. I recommend.

Project: Antergos Version: 17.4 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-22 Votes: 1
| Wery good looking, fast and stable OS.
I never tryed rolling release before, but now, thanks to Antergos, I like using linux again.
They really made Desktop Linux great again! :)
What I like:
- A lot (really lot) of software from Arch repositories, which you find and install faster and easier than on oter distros.
- Looks very nice (Plasma, GTK and Deepin desktops).
- Just works. After few updates on OpenSuse or Ubuntu derivatives - somethink breaks. So far all is OK with Antergos. Furthermore, even if someting becomes broken (will be faster to reinstall system and setup software, than to fight with terminal in other distros.)
- Using Blender with Cycles requires installing Blender, Nvidia driver, and it works. Try this on OpenSuse or Ubuntu distros.
- Clean system is unbelievably responsive. KDE plasma, with XFCE responsiveness. (Actually I ditched Mint because of responsivenes of Cinnamon - I just don't like XFCE)
What I dislike:
- Nothing so far. I hope will contunue to be most stable and easy to maintain distro I tryed so far.

Project: deepin Version: 15.4 Rating: 9 Date: 2017-04-22 Votes: 3
| Former windows and ubuntu linux user. When ever i used linux i looked for a clean and elegant environment. Deepin does it all, it looks beautiful, runs fast and comes with useful apps like an office suite and steam straight out of the box. I wish there was a little more customization but I would SERIOUSLY recommend you try this distro.

Project: Antergos Version: 17.4 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-22 Votes: 0
| The Antergos live image, boots with a gnome desktop environment. After the boot, you can choose to try it or to install. The installation process need an internet connection. This take a time depending of internet speed. Its a graphical install of Arch Linux, basicly. Many options of software, with the pamac graphical software manager. I dont understand the groups of software of Antergos in pamac, the categories are confused, but the search of package is usefull and easy. The AUR repositorie is cool, with many applications úteis e funcionais, por exemplo: JDK Oracle, WPS Office, Google Chrome, Firefox Aurora, MySql. The extensions of Gnome works great, in my case I use Gnome and some extensions are excellent as touchpad indicator (when I connect my external mouse them automatically disable the touchpad). There are many options of personallization. The stability is spectacular. The updates are very good and fast. Developer team thank you so much. Oh, sorry for my bad english. I dont speak english.

the best Linux for my old PC.

Project: Devuan GNU+Linux Version: 1.0.0-rc Rating: 9 Date: 2017-04-22 Votes: 7
| Best "Debian" fork since Wheezy. Solid, reliable, flexible, stable, predictable, repeatable. Like a breath of fresh air.
- I now have it installed on my pi1, pi2, main desk pc, and ascii on my test pc.
- Laptop install went smooth, wifi discovered and connected without problem, wicd is ok and did it's job. Looking for to net-aid.
- I like the simple look of Xfce, been using it for a while... standard work. Mate is a bit rough, had some small (but annoying ) issues, that didn't get in the way and don't really matter. Just wish it'd been 'wow'!
- installer worked well, nothing special... very dated (but concise) look/feel, but useful and full featured. Handled logical volumes and multiple partitions well. Don't have a RAID setup, don't need it.
- One surprise is that I play Kerbal Space Program extensively and the CKAN upgrade system depends heavily on MONO (I know, so what) and that whole setup worked well following the upgrade. It stresses the system well; CPU, RAM, and Graphics.
- I also pull down and compile the Linux kernel weekly to help test and reply. The setup with DEVUAN works very well running v4.11-rc7 (latest) kernel. No issues.

| Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based distribution whose goal is to provide a more complete out-of-the-box experience by including browser plugins, media codecs, support for DVD playback, Java and other components. It also adds a custom desktop and menus, several unique configuration tools, and a web-based package installation interface. Linux Mint is compatible with Ubuntu software repositories.

Project: Devuan GNU+Linux Version: 1.0.0-beta2 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 0
| Pros:
Server (without desktop) and Workstation (with desktop) works very well with little configuration modifications. I find it to be very stable. Is free of Systemd and its totalitarianism.
Cons:
Current release still beta, though this is understandable give the situation.

Project: Antergos Version: 17.4 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 0
| I was Ubuntu user on a Dell notebook. I have long used Linux, not as an expert, but only as a user. User basic applications for internet access, listen to music, record cds, watch movies, work with office files and pdf. I started with RH Linux, I went through Debian, Fedora and others until I got to Ubuntu. Then I used Mint, but something did not bring me full fluidity and satisfaction in the use, because there were always bugs, flaws and things like that. I researched a lot about the Rolling Release distributions, and so I chose Arch as my basic architecture. I was then looking for a graphical installation for Arch, I found Antergos, formerly Cinnarch, and for more than a year I've been using Antergos as my sole distribution. Very easy to install, choose the main programs and everything. I use the Office WPS of the AUR repository without problems, VLC, FLACON, etc. Everything works great, no crashes. The best choice in years of Linux.

Project: Gentoo Linux Version: stable Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 0
| I love it, it is by far the best linux distro I have encountered.
Pros
I can add and strip what I want in features
It is built for my system
Install once and leave it - never have to risk upgrading between releases like kubuntu
Cons
Long compile times - but bearable.
|
Project: Arch Linux Version: current Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 4
| Pros:
Arch can become whatever you want it to be.You are the Boss.Needs no special treatment as a rolling distro and any hiccups (if) can be easily resolved using the ArchWiki, which is -literally-the "Gospell of Linux".
Cons:
You need to have succesfully installed it a few times, before you can realize how easy the process is.

Project: Zorin OS Version: 12.1 Rating: 9 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 0
| Zorin made two of our 8 year old laptops again after a horrible run with Vista. The graphic interface is intuitive and easy to use moving from Microsoft and Apple products. The included apps of the Core version is enough for the average user and customizations are a great bonus.
The only down side is when I tried installing Office with Wine or Playwithlinux I had to fiddle a bit to get the apps to work but I lost some French keyboard features with the windows emulator. Good thing Libre Office is fully compatible !
I have also tried Zorin 9 in the past but this version is even better.

Project: Debian Version: testing Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 3
| In think Debian is a good choice for somebody, who is bored with beginner distros such as Ubuntu or Mint, but doesn't
like Arch or Slackware philosophy. Excelent package manager, many desktop environments, very stable. In my opinion Debian is the best.

Project: Zorin OS Version: 11 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 3
| Zorin is probably the most polished, most sleek and most usable Linux so far based on Ubuntu. There are some defaults that I always strip off like the video player and PlayonLinux, which I replace with MPV and Crossover to suit my personal choice.
The stability of the system is what I like the most. I have been using Zorin as my server OS (Zorin 7 based on Ubuntu 13.04) on our computing workstation since July 2013 and it is still doing fine under heavy loads since then, with only 20 reboots or so.
One of the best and reliable OSes for people looking for desktops with big screens. Go Zorin Go...

Project: ROSA Version: R9 Rating: 8 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 1
| Really like the stability of the system. The looks are always solid and awesome. Here are some areas where ROSA Linux can be improved:
1. Find the servers are slow, so is the upgrade process as a result.
2. The kernel is bit old. While I understand it is so from the stability point of view, but it is too old to handle new machines. For the same reason, I do not suggest ROSA Linux to my friends purchasing new machines.
3. Some third party packages I tried last time like Mathematica, Matlab and Crossover Linux find it difficult to integrate with the Desktop Environment.

Project: SparkyLinux Version: 3.5 Rating: 8 Date: 2017-04-21 Votes: 0
| I like this distro a lot. I used it through versions 2 and 3 and appreciate its take on Debian, effectively making a rolling distribution out of it. It's pretty fast and light. The graphic design is bad, but if you can't change the colors and wallpaper then get an Apple. I also liked the early adoption of LXQT.
I quit using it because it broke more than I was willing to deal with. It is, I suppose, a byproduct of being essentially Debian Testing, which is part of the appeal. I just got tired of my work flow being stopped having to twiddle around figuring out why that latest update locked up my box. I realize that is just part of the fun for some.
My advise: update aggressively. Update whenever you boot.

So many cool things still in the pipeline for Solus, it keeps getting better with every update.

Project: Linux Mint Version: 17.3 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-20 Votes: 0
| Linux Mint Cinnamon has been my very first experience with anything Linux and I am not disappointed at all. The learning curve for me wasn't a 'happy go lucky' walk in the park, but the 'walk' itself was and still is amazingly exciting because the guidance of the experienced and patient folks on the forum make it very, very worthwhile.
Just over 1 year now and I've not felt I made the wrong decision and I've learned so quite a bit about Linux with lots more to learn I'm sure.
It was very easy to download and install the ISO. Wifi worked*, the wifi HP printer connected without fuss.
The one thing I'd love to see though, is that software are bit more up to date.
*depending on some hardware, wifi sometimes has the bad habit of 'dropping' out but there's a guy on the forum there that's just a whiz at it -IMO -and he and others are always willing to help set it right.

Project: Manjaro Linux Version: stable Rating: 6 Date: 2017-04-20 Votes: 0
| The Ubuntu of the Arch side. Very good work and progress so far, user friendly (as much as an arch based distro can be). Stil some serious problems need to be solved, as actual optimus support (doesn't work, at least out of the box, since 4.4 kernel).
My serious concern is that every time another OS is installed, that being Windows or Linux, manjaro fails to boot due to a kernel panic. That's unacceptable for if you plan to use it as your main OS, and it's something that the user should not have to troubleshoot with. It doesen't happen in any other distro except arch and arch based ones. For that reason I give it a 6, otherwise it'd be 8.

Project: Lubuntu Version: 16.04 Rating: 9 Date: 2017-04-20 Votes: 0
| I chose Lubuntu as my first distro. when I had bitten that bullet of wiping Windows out of my life.
Well that was the idea - but I must admit I still have a copy of Windows XP 'just in case'; and for that
video editor that I can't better.
Lubuntu has proven to be a good choice. Most things I want to do are pretty much obvious, and when they aren't then there is good documentation, and always Google.
No software is ever 10/10, but Lubuntu is a really good 9/10, which considering it is not just an O/S but all of the programs you use on it too means that comparing it to Windows isn't fair - It is ALL of the programs you need as well
I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to make the change.
If I can do it at 68, what's stopping you?

It seems Linux Kernel 4.10 causes this issue. Linux Mint with Linux Kernel 4.4 works fine (Dual Boot) but when updated to 4.10 it freezes on splash screen.
My Laptop uses UEFI with Secure boot and Windows 10 Pro Anniversary Edition.

Project: Bodhi Linux Version: 4.1.0 Rating: 3 Date: 2017-04-20 Votes: 1
| I am very sorry to write this, because I like the idea behind this distro.
Good:
Bodhi is fast, it is true lightweight and the DE is interesting.
Bad:
I am not a beginner and I gave Bodhi a go three times in a row. And always something went wrong. Examples: the updater worked at first, but disappeared after a restart. Gdebi and synaptic were added, but did not start after a click, the workaround via terminal (sudo synaptic or sudo gdebi) worked, but then the updater collapsed. Again workaround via terminal. Kernel update did not help. By the way, Bodhi avoids regular kernel upgrades like Ubuntu does right now and this can be discussed controversially.
I think, the problem is simple but of serious consequence. A quite small team (Bodhi) is operating with Ubuntu LTS. Whenever something gets updated by Ubuntu, Bodhi has to check it immediately (dependencies, themes, gtk and so on) and very often something has to be fixed. That is very challenging. Whoever uses Bodhi has to deal with a lot of small things to be worked on. That is no fun.
Lubuntu in comparison is solid, as fast as Bodhi and I have never had a single issue, everything works out of the box. I think the reason is that Lubuntu is an official flavour of Ubuntu.
What is Linux right now? Not enough cooperation, too many small teams, too many desktop environments (who needs this?) and only a few distros can be considered as really
user-friendly.

| Wasn't crazy about Unity in the beginning, but have gotten used to it and now prefer to to Gnome or Mate. For me Ubuntu is super stable, easy and quick to update. I use apt-get for additional software as I do find the software center a bit slow, Will hate to see Unity go, I know I'm in a distinct minority but, in my experience the majority is usually wrong.

Project: Ubuntu MATE Version: 16.04 Rating: 10 Date: 2017-04-20 Votes: 1
| Fast, stable, and eminently customizable. I needed to hook-up an old computer after my primary desktop machine crashed in the middle of a major project. I installed Ubuntu MATE on a 10-year old AMD-powered box and was back in business in 20 minutes. Liked it so much I'm still using it as my daily ride. Excellent package all around. I prefer Ubuntu MATE even over my former flame, Mint/Cinnamon. There is no better option for old hardware. I haven't tried it (yet) but I suspect U-MATE would be phenomenal on a newer machine. In the wake of recent anniuncements, Canonical should strongly consider MATE as the standard Ubuntu version. It's just that good. Try it and prepare to be impressed.
