Counterparty (XCP) is a decentralised financial platform and distributed, open-source Internet protocol built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain and network. Counterparty provides users with a functioning decentralized digital currency exchange, as well as the ability to create virtual assets, issue dividends, create price feeds, bets and contracts. Counterparty also has a native currency that trades on cryptocurrency exchanges as XCP. XCP is not mined; instead, it was issued using a provable method called "proof of burn" which involves sending bitcoins to a special address that renders them permanently unspendable. BitKey is a FREE, Debian-based live Linux distribution designed for Bitcoin users; it comes with specialist utilities to perform highly secure air-gapped Bitcoin transactions. It contains a swiss army knife of handy Bitcoin tools that support a wide range of usage models, including a few very secure ones which would otherwise be difficult to perform. The system boots into one of the three available modes: "cold-offline" - for creating a wallet and signing transactions; "cold-online" - for watching the wallet and preparing transactions; "hot-online" - standard usage but less secure as the private keys are known to the computer which is connected to the internet.

| Did You Know? | A cryptocoin faucet is a website that gives out small amounts of coins for free. The reasons for the giveaway vary - from spreading the awareness for the coin to allowing the users test their client software. Some third-party faucets give out coins with the sole purpose of making money from advertising by attracting high volumes of traffic to their websites. To combat fraud and automated access via scripts, the visitors on some faucet sites may need to demonstrate that they are human by answering a captcha or by playing a simple game.

8,850 satoshi | James Lovejoy has announced the release of Vertcoin (VTC) 0.11.1.0, an updated build of the project's proof-of-work (Lyra2), cryptocurrency with strong privacy features. The new version, which implements the SegWit feature, should be treated as a mandatory upgrade: "I am pleased to announce the release of v0.11.1 of Vertcoin. This update implements BIP148 which is a 'User Activated Soft Fork' for Segregated Witness. This update is in response to two large unknown miners blocking SegWit activation on the Vertcoin network despite over 95% of nodes being upgraded and a clear desire from the community to upgrade. Since over 50% of the network hashrate belongs to the 'attackers', they will likely not update and not implement UASF, so this update should be treated in the same way as a hard fork. Old wallets will continue to follow whichever chain has the most work, and will only follow the SegWit chain once it has more work behind it. Therefore, everyone should upgrade to this new wallet to ensure the stability of the network and reduce the risk of a fork." See the release announcement and release notes for more information. 2,830 satoshi | The Sterlingcoin (SLG) project, which develops a proof-of-stake (X13) cryptocurrency originally forked from Bitcoin, has released an updated version of their wallet client. The 1.6 series was initially announced on 8 April, but build problems on the Windows platform have delayed the release of binary files until yesterday: "I am very pleased to announce that the compatibility problem in the Windows builds have finally been isolated. Final testing is actively being conducted. Version 1.6, now v1.6.0.1 technically, will be released for Windows just as soon as these tests have concluded. There is absolutely no reason that these test should fail. I am sorry for the prolonged delay it has taken to get to this point. Because the person that built the previous version of the Windows wallet is travelling and out of communication, isolating the issue has been a bit of a hunt." Shortly after the above announcement, the new Sterlingcoin 1.6.0.1 wallet clients were released for macOS and Windows; download links: Sterlingcoin-v1.6-OSX-v1601.dmg (21.10MB), Sterlingcoin-v1.6.0.1-DB6.1.zip (12.3MB). Users of Linux and other operating systems are expected to compile their own binaries (instructions here) from the source code available at GitHub: Sterlingcoin-1.6.0.1-Release.tar.gz (4.04MB). | | 2017-04-20 | NEW • Cryptocurrency Release: NAV Coin (NAV) 4.0.1.1 |

65 satoshi | Luke Champine has announced the release of Sia (SC) 1.2.0, a software behind the project's decentralised storage platform based on a proof-of-work (BLAKE) blockchain: "Sia v1.2.0. This is a minor release that incorporates major changes to the host and wallet modules. The host's storage backend has been completely rewritten to improve performance and scalability. Administration privileges are also no longer required to be a host on Windows. The wallet has (finally!) moved to an on-disk database, meaning that it will unlock instantly after the database is synced to the blockchain. The wallet also now supports creating a new wallet from an existing seed, and 'sweeping' the coins in an existing seed into another wallet. Finally, addressing a frequent need of new users, the wallet can be recreated with a new seed, meaning users no longer have to manually delete their wallet folder." 25,000 satoshi | PascalCoin (PASC), a proof-of-work cryptocurrency launched in August 2016 and written in Pascal, has been updated to version 1.5.5. This is a bug-fix release: "New PascalCoin build 1.5.5. Build 1.5.5.0 - 2017-04-11: corrected fee result on RPC calls as a negative number on 'Change key' operations; corrected PASCURRENCY value to be limited as a 4 decimal digits on RPC calls; JSON-RPC method 'getaccountoperations' changed - if parameter 'start' is -1, it will include pending operations, otherwise it won't; fixed bug - on 'getaccountoperations' if an account had a lot of operations (receive transactions included) then sometimes application crashed when executing depth search. Note: high depth search is slow because the search always starts from current state, going backwards, in order to return past balance. This can be a slow method on some account with high transaction volumes." Here is the brief release announcement as published on BitcoinTalk.org. 30,400 satoshi | Lisk (LSK) has been updated to version 0.8.0. Lisk is a decentralised application platform and cryptocurrency launched in May 2016 and written in Node.js. This is one of the routine monthly updates: "Lisk 0.8.0 has been released, bringing more performance improvements and bug fixes. For this release, we’ve put even more work into database optimization, refining the API layer and resolving some difficult bugs. As with each successive release it is our pleasure to report a number of bugs that have been squashed. These bugs range from the minor misnamed and deprecated endpoint for the dApps API, to the application listening before it is ready and finally the rare but major nullification of the configuration file. These are just a small list of bugs that were resolved, we know that this list will shrink with successive releases. We have also improved the performance of some heavily used database tables." 97 satoshi | The DigiByte (DGB) project, which develops a proof-of-work (PoW) cryptocurrency mined using five advanced cryptographic algorithms (Grøstl, Qubit, scrypt, SHA-256 and Skein), has been busy updating their wallet client to bring it in line with all the recent improvements in Bitcoin Core. The latest release, version 6.14.2, was announced yesterday: "We just released v6.14.2 which fixes the wallet loading delay." The release announcement also mentions the recent attempt by ASIC hardware manufacturers to block the SegWit implementation on Bitcoin and Litecoin networks and how it impacts a multi-algorithm coin like DigiByte: "Right now there are ASIC manufacturers attempting to block SegWit activation on LTC and BTC. If we get activated we can prove the true decentralized power of multi-algo mining to help prevent a single party from centralizing a blockchain through mining. You can mine DigiByte on one of five separate mining algorithms. Each algo averages out to mine 20% of new blocks. This allows for much greater decentralization than other blockchains."
